3 Unmissable Sights in Istanbul

in Travel-leisure

It may once have been known as Constantinople but today the same city goes by the name of Istanbul. What’s more it also offers many reasons why you should pay it a visit.

Be prepared to visit a huge city, for starters. This is one of the biggest ones in the world, so perhaps it isn’t surprising that there are so many things to see and do there.

Most people will have heard of the Topkapi Palace, and if you are booking a holiday in Istanbul you should put it at the top of your list of places to go. The palace is well over four hundred years old, having been created in the mid 1400s. Guided tours are available to give you a better insight into how the palace was used by the sultans in centuries gone by.

Another must see attraction must surely be the Blue Mosque. One word that is often used to describe it is opulent, and when you see it for yourself, you will see why. The building is majestic enough from a distance, but when you come closer to it you will be able to see the magnificent detail that has gone into every part of the building.

The mosque has stood as a familiar symbol of Istanbul for four hundred years, and the minarets and the domes are easy to spot from some distance away. Inside, you will discover the reason for the name Blue Mosque – thousands upon thousands of tiles have been used to decorate it, and they are all blue and white.

Finally if you want a better way to see more of Istanbul you can book a trip on a boat tour. Watch out for cruises that go along the Bosphorus River, as they prove to be very popular. Many of them are a day long experience and they can also sometimes offer visits to places you will see along the way.

The tours are offered by different operators so it is possible to take a faster tour if you want to spend the rest of the day doing something else. But make sure you have an hour or two to make the most of it at the very least. Be sure to watch out for the wealth of buildings and sights along the southern side of the river, whatever trip you book. This is where most of the familiar sights can be seen.

Any stay in Istanbul will be filled with excitement, fascination and a sense of history. Once you have decided on your hotel Istanbul accommodation, you can sit back and look forward to a sensational holiday in a fascinating location that has much to share with you.
